Freeing the Bird

The shortcut through the Dreaming leaves them close to many warehouses and the water in Kaiwharawhara but only one has a palpable feel of magic and about ten young men simply hanging about.

As everyone starts to appear, a few of the men pull out various objects to focus as the magic grows in the air as the others who are a bit too pale just grin.

Teams: 1-Alex, Aiden, the Baron, Hamlet
2-Carl, Ben, James, Peron

Starting things off again and I'm just going to do the James' thread later and make it work.

Ben turns, sharp and swift.

And then he's running toward the explosion, because Miss Tiwa's in there -- and Benton may need another gunhand.

If he didn't get caught in the blast, that is.

As the Baron throws the ghoul aside, Aiden turns to head towards the ghoul.

The back door gets a brief glance, but Aiden trusts that the Baron can handle himself against whatever bigshot supernatural being is in there.

Most of the shadows are dealing with the others and the Mage turns towards them in the midst of speaking to Carl and starts to throw up a wall of something.

Tane yells a war cry and nods to Peron's gun, hopefully if the distraction works they can buy some time.

The Mage turns as the front of the building starts to fill up and pushes the air surrounding Carl so he is sent against the wall as he turns to deal with who has entered.

(OOC: Question that I just realized now. The blast happened at the back of the warehouse so is Ben just running straight through it or around the back?)

Perón pulls his gun and fires, not troubling to aim too carefully. It's more the sound than the bullet that's of assistance, now.

James is still for a moment; traveling through the Dreaming is unlike anything he's ever experienced, and he's tried a number of different 'magical' ways of travelling.

He glances at the group of men and fishes into his robes pocket for his wand.

One of the apprentices grins and starts playing with a pack of cards as he moves towards James, who at least doesn't have a gun.

As he walks and the cards flip, the air around James starts to stir with a strange wind that keeps getting stronger.

The Mage slams Carl against the wall and turns to deal with them as Tane starts to chant as the earth trembles under the Mage's feet.

He's pretty sure air doesn't do that. And it usually doesn't feel like this either.

He raises his wand.

"Where is she?" he demands.

"Out of your reach."

There's a sneer in the apprentice's voice as the wind tightens.

He narrows his eyes, taking the briefest moment to recall all of the offensive spells he knows, picking the right one from his roster.

He watches the apprentice continue to flip through his cards.

"Why do you need her?" he asks, buying some time.

"Foolish honor and you'll give up all for her. My master has shown it will be so and if you don't, the iron will kill her."

The sneer turns into a laugh as the wind shifts to grab some gravel.

That's it.

"Yeah? We'll see."

He points his wand at him, and shouts loud and clear: "Expelliarmus."

With a blast, the cards fly out of the apprentice's hands and he almost falls over as the wind ends and he starts trying to gather them again,

"Why are you working with them?!"

"What? What are you talking about?"

He feels the rush of adrenaline, seeing his spell working successfully.

But mostly, he wants this to be over with so he can find Tiwa.

He's rushing to get his cards back together and starts shuffling them so that a very thin flame moves around James,

"You're one of us, they're thieves and hoarders!"

For a moment, he's distracted, watching the flame as it comes around him.

"I'm not one of you," he spits. "I'd never be one of you."

Thieves? Hoarders? This is the first he's hearing about this.

"What'd they steal from you?"

Since the Mage's concentration is disturbed, its not terribly threatening as he keeps ranting,

"They just sit on all that power and for what, dreams. No one will miss them."

"That's bollocks," James says. "Everyone'll miss dreams."

He points his wand back at the Mage.

"You're telling me you don't have any dreams?"

"Nothing real, nothing that matters, not like us, we shape the world!"

He laughs and finally has his cards sorted again and the flame grows higher.

James scoffs.

"Aguamenti!" he shouts, and a jet of water erupts from the tip of his wand, putting out some of the flames before casting a defensive charm over himself (to protect from the burns).

Perón holds his gun at the ready, mostly out of instinct, as he watches alertly while Tane works his magic.

The water is a surprise and actually dampens the cards so the flames die out and the mage yells and moves to punch James, sadly physical combat isn't something he's been trained in.
