Freeing the Bird

The shortcut through the Dreaming leaves them close to many warehouses and the water in Kaiwharawhara but only one has a palpable feel of magic and about ten young men simply hanging about.

As everyone starts to appear, a few of the men pull out various objects to focus as the magic grows in the air as the others who are a bit too pale just grin.

Teams: 1-Alex, Aiden, the Baron, Hamlet
2-Carl, Ben, James, Peron

Starting things off again and I'm just going to do the James' thread later and make it work.

Liam and Meg step out first towards the right drawing swords and move forward to attack.

Aiden moves off from the group, so that he has space to change. There's a brief, neon green glow from his eyes, and then shards of stained glass explode outwards and are pulled inwards to form his armour.

He gives his now rather claw-like fingers a brief, experimental wiggle, flicks his wrist to make sure it's all loose, then clenches one hand into a fist.

"That's a brilliant trick, my good man. Let's give these faithless curs what for, shall we?"

The Baron draws his saber, smiles brilliantly, and gives it an experimental twirl.

The ghouls were expecting magic and laugh as two of them head towards Aiden before moving slightly quicker than the eye can see.

Liam and Meg are in the midst of about two of them as one laughs at the Baron,

"You're taking me on with that!?"

The Baron, for his good measure, laughs right back. "I wouldn't sully my blade with your guts, sir."

If someone were watching closely, they might see the grey fade from his hair. They might see his skin become young and smooth.

But most will only see the cant of his arm as it cocks, the muscles beneath moving with the strength of a much younger man. The guard of his saber connects with the ghoul's jaw with a thunderous crack.

There really isn't much preparation on Alex's part. One moment he's stepped out of the dreaming -which he did not like at all and now is cranky and wants someone to take it out on - and then next he's dropping behind one of the ones with weapons getting pulled out. Knives pulled out he slashes.

The ghoul he attacks screams and turns to try and punch him with more than normal strength.

It's hard to punch someone that's clinging to your back like a kitten in the curtains. Which is what Alex is currently doing. He's smiling too, giving an uneven laugh as he rides the ghoul.

So the ghoul tries to back into a car to knock Alex off.

Hamlet's rapier is out and at the ready, and his mouth is drawn in a thin, determined line as he approaches the men in front of the warehouse. His back is ramrod straight, and his walk is self-assured.

One more moment of calm, and then


he runs.

He is still completely silent, but his movements are fast and graceful, all with the intent to kill.

A ghoul comes forward to meet him and tries to grab his rapier out of the air to stop him.

Hamlet's response is to slash at the offending hand, flicking the rapier point up and then thrusting forward with the point of the blade.

When Tane sees those waiting for him he gives a laugh,

"Guess won't be surprising 'em, just have to scare them instead."

Perón is a bit disoriented from the trip through the Dreaming, as well he might be - it's like and yet unlike anything he might experience at home. The return to solid reality clears his head, though, as does the feel of the gun he draws from sheer instinct. His gaze flickers over their opponents, sizing them up as best he can in the second or two before he aims and fires.

The sound of gunfire slightly surprises the apprentices who start weaving spells as a few duck behind a car.

One is winged and another finds himself tackled by Tane.

Perón leaves Tane to his business, not wanting to risk injuring the man, and focuses on the one he nicked. In this world he doesn't know, he can't take any chances, so he fires again. His concentration is stronger this time, his aim not just to startle or wound, but to finish the job.

He shakes his head when they step out of the Dreaming - that was odd and disorienting - but he takes a look at the warehouse and immediately starts forming a plan.

If everyone is focusing their attention on the front, it would be easier for him to sneak around the back and attempt to find a way in. Rarely do you just waltz in the front door to any compound, let alone one guarded by magic users.

He glances at Tane.

"You keep these bastards busy, I can go see what our options are for infiltration."

Right before he tackles one of them Tane gives Carl a nod.

He shoulders his small pack and sets off at a quick run down the street, getting a few warehouses down before he ducks between the buildings while people are busy tearing each other apart in the street.

It's simple enough to double back and work his way back to the target, and he pulls his gun from the holster as a precaution, listening to the sounds on the front side of the building and not making a sound as he creeps through the shadows.

A door would be nice, but if not, he's got no problem with blowing out a window to drop inside.

Ben blinks, hard, shaking off the aftereffects of whatever that was, his hand already on the Hand of God.

The Colt is out of its holster in half a heartbeat, and he's grinning at the odds.

"We got this," he says with a nod to Carl; he starts firing, the sound of his shots bleeding into Perón's.

When bullets not magic greet them at first, the apprentices try to hide behind some cars as they start creating and working on spells.

They're not quick enough to be unscathed and one apprentice is down on the ground with a bleeding leg.

Cold fire lights Ben's eyes; he puts a bullet in the fallen man's chest, then empties the chamber. Metal hits metal and sparks fly from the impact.

He reloads, fingers quick and practiced, keeping his attention on the rest of the shadowed figures.

He's really hoping some kind of spell isn't about to fly his way.

James is still for a moment; traveling through the Dreaming is unlike anything he's ever experienced, and he's tried a number of different 'magical' ways of travelling.

He glances at the group of men and fishes into his robes pocket for his wand.

One of the apprentices grins and starts playing with a pack of cards as he moves towards James, who at least doesn't have a gun.

As he walks and the cards flip, the air around James starts to stir with a strange wind that keeps getting stronger.

He's pretty sure air doesn't do that. And it usually doesn't feel like this either.

He raises his wand.

"Where is she?" he demands.
