Freeing the Bird

The shortcut through the Dreaming leaves them close to many warehouses and the water in Kaiwharawhara but only one has a palpable feel of magic and about ten young men simply hanging about.

As everyone starts to appear, a few of the men pull out various objects to focus as the magic grows in the air as the others who are a bit too pale just grin.

Teams: 1-Alex, Aiden, the Baron, Hamlet
2-Carl, Ben, James, Peron

Starting things off again and I'm just going to do the James' thread later and make it work.

The only problem is that there is a trap of sorts on the skylight and as he moves to tape the charges, iron spikes shoot up an inch from the edges.

The spikes are unexpected - and he didn't see them - so he flinches back on instinct and gets clear of the thrust.

"...alright then."

So the charges get placed around the skylight.

As the trap is set off, the Mage looks up and nods before moving, the attack out front is not worrying him but above he wonders.

So the spikes start to grow and form a cage around whomever might dare to sneak in.

He is not getting stuck in a cage of spikes.

He grabs the pack and runs, and makes a leap over the shorter edge of the spikes, landing hard on the roof and rolling out of the way.

They're onto him, which means that it's time to do this the more direct approach.

Since the trap hasn't caught anything the Mage considers as the spikes move to form a cage over the skylight and he moves to kick the cage which rings above though the words he says are lost.

The spikes won't stop that C-4, so he's not all that worried. The explosives will take out a large chunk of roof as it is, and probably drop the cage to the floor of the warehouse.

He moves back for the fire escape.

Don't worry, little bird. We're going to get you out of there.

Since the roof is quiet once more, the Mage moves away though he's listening to hear if other traps might be sprung.

He avoids the window this time around as he makes his way down the fire escape, and then moves to the small back door with the C-4 at the ready, so that he can rig that as well.

On the lookout for traps.

This trap is slightly more subtle as the iron door itself shifts towards him and the Mage grumbles and Carl will be able to hear him say,

"Perhaps if I cut you once more, they'll leave, bird!"

Tiwa's tired enough that her voice can't quite be heard but the shift of iron can.

If he wasn't so keen on staying silent, he'd growl.

The iron doesn't bother him and he plants the charges, rigs the detonators to a different frequency and then moves to duck behind a stack of crates to shelter himself from the blast that will comes when he decides to blow the doors.

The Mage actually opens the door and peers out with a glare,

"Do you really think you can take her back?!"

Being on Delta meant that you had a team to back you up, more often than not.

Even with the rest of their team at the front of the building, involved in heavy fighting, they're there, and he trusts that some of them will come if he gets himself into too much trouble.

"Go to hell."

Carl jabs the button down, and there is only a sharp whine in the air for half a second before all the charges around the door blow, tearing through the iron and tin and causing the ground to rumble a little bit, dust and smoke kicked up into the air.

He draws his gun and brings it to ready, then moves on the door.

With a yell the Mage pulls air up around him as protection and runs into the warehouse calling out,

"They've surrounded us!"

Idiot.

Turns his back and leaves the door open.

The dust in the air doesn't bother him a bit as he moves inside, sighting the man easily and pulling the trigger twice. He didn't bother with a silencer, not with the group they had with them, there's no point.

The hardened air slows the bullets down enough that they do no damage and as Carl enters the Mage moves to tighten the air around Carl.

He's been in situations where holding his breath has been necessary before, but he won't be able to last all that long without help.

"You've no idea what you're in for."

Out of the air the Mage comes forward with a sneer as he holds the air tight,

"No, you have no idea. I was hoping that someone of more power would be sent."

Carl just keeps a straight face.

"How do you know I'm not powerful?"

"You're simply a mortal and will die as one."

He can spot the cage across the way, but doesn't look at it for long, keeping his eyes on the man in front of him.

I believe in you, Piwakawaka. I believe that your friends will get us out of here. I have hope--

There are dark spots at the edge of his vision, and he's still strong but he has to kneel eventually.

I have hope and I believe in you.

Now the Mage simply laughs and allows Carl a little air,

"Will you not protest and fight, such a shame. At least you will be a meal for my colleague."

"Not very tasty."

He pulls in what air he can and shrugs his shoulders.

"You want to fight, let's fight, but make it fair. You hardly seem the type of man to cheat."

The Mage turns as the front of the building starts to fill up and pushes the air surrounding Carl so he is sent against the wall as he turns to deal with who has entered.

He's not protected - getting thrown back into the wall hurts - but he ignores the pain as best he can, shoving himself up off the floor.

First instinct is to draw his gun and shoot him - but that didn't work last time.

So instead he grabs his knife from his boot and moves to stalk after the Mage, using the commotion and distraction as his chance to strike.

Stupidest thing you could ever do, walkin' in like this --

Ben had been silent at first, listening to the exchange, but now he's making more noise than two men; he's banking Benton's still got some fight in him (and Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, please God let him be able) he wants to give the man every opportunity to hurt the Mage.

"Hey, Mr. Magic! We need to have a talk 'bout a friend of mine."
