The door opens onto a patio that's full of a huge family working on a barbeque and other things.

There's a view over a city with a horseshoe harbor and a wind that threatens to blow you over if you walk the wrong way.

"All's well that ends well."

He crosses his fingers.

"Love conquers all."

She says it quite seriously and kisses him on the nose.

To which he responds with a chaste kiss on the cheek, just as she pulls back.

"Que mes baisers soient les mots d'amour que je ne te dis pas."

"What's that mean?"

"Kisses are the unspoken words of love."

"Oh, it sounds much prettier the way you said it."

"French is called the language of love."

"I'll have to remember that next time a boy kisses me."

Not that they do it very often but might help.

He raises both of his eyebrows at her, but ...

She shrugs and tries to get the last bit of her gelato,

"Usually just friends with me."

"Who am I to assume things?" he asks cheerily, "There are many kinds of love. Each one beautiful in its own right."

"They just don't see me that way is all."

"Why not?"

Witness the slightly frowny-face.

"You're charming, pretty, smart, and a - a slew of other, ah, adjectives. If you told me they were blind or dumb, I might believe that."

"Don't know, just haven't so far and I'm not that pretty not like Meg."

"I couldn't make an honest comparison as I haven't seen Meg, but, pah. You're a lovely girl."

"Just she smiles and boys fall over, but that's not really important. What's your lady like?"

"Like a storm," he replies, smiling and looking down at his feet.

"Passionate, headstrong, overwhelming, but beautiful."

"She sounds like a good match for you."

"We are too alike," he laughs.

"But - ah. Love is love."

She gives him another hug,

"She makes you happy though."

"Yes, she does."

"And you make her happy?"

"I try to."
