Tiwa is finally better and things are quieter in Wellington so she told her Mum she was going to see a movie before getting a door to open on Courtenay Place for Antoine.

Tonight she's not terribly dressed up, just a sparkly shirt and sandals along with a fake fragipani flower in her hair,

"Now you're going to like this, I promise."

Antoine, for his part, is dressed in clothing slightly more appropriate for her era (a white t-shirt with a navy jacket thrown on over it, and a pair of jeans).

"I don't doubt you," he says, cheerfully. "Where to?"

"This way."

She threads through the crowd towards a place with bright lights saying karaoke.

He soaks everything in, eyes flickering over the lights and offering the sign a confused expression.

Still, he trusts her enough to follow her in.

Inside much of the crowd of young people are speaking Korean or Chinese as two people on the small stage sing something and Tiwa giggles and pulls him over to a table.

He's looking increasingly apprehensive, but is still grinning, still following her. He sits next to her, both hands on the table.

There's a menu first of songs but also food, pretty basic bar food and she finds a waiter and orders,

"No worries, it'll be fun, I've done this before."

"Then I leave my life entirely in your hands."

[piwakawaka]

"Also it doesn't matter if you know the words or not, its all about having fun. If you want something to drink though, you have to order it, I'm not old enough."

The waiter gives them a smile, she's pretty and nods to Antoine as she chirps,

"He's visiting from France so have to show him the sights."

"I'll settle for water," he tells the waitress (who gets a quick - read: discreet - lookover and a polite smile).

Tiwa giggles and starts looking over the song list,

"Now what should we sing?"

"Up to you."

[piwakawaka]

"You should help pick."

The list is slightly divided and ordered by types of songs.

"Nngh."

Translation: Fine.

She giggles and gives him a hug as their food arrives,

"Close your eyes and wherever your finger lands, that's what will sing."

He does exactly that, except for the part where he doesn't open his eyes after he's done so.

"Read it for me."

"Staying Alive by the Village People."

Then Tiwa collapses in a fit of giggles.

He gives her a very, very dubious and hapless look.

He has no idea what the song is, but, hey. If she's laughing, that can't be a bad thing.

His hapless is cute and she goes up to the person in charge of songs and says what they want and the woman who's Korean looks at Antoine and giggles with Tiwa,

"We have to wait our turn a bit."

"No problem," he replies, bobbing his head slightly.

She just grins at him and starts eating and occasionally giggling.

Antoine is just going to pretend he didn't see this coming.

He's very wise that way and gets a kiss on the nose and soon its their turn and she hops up to the rather small stage.

There's a small TV with a video of the Village People and words as she gives him a microphone as she starts singing.

There are about five seconds in which a) he is too busy wondering exactly what the Village People think they're doing, and b) he is finishing up grasping the concept of karaoke, before he begins to accompany her.

He is, it must be said, not timid. He misses a word every so often, but at the very least, he keeps the tune.

And doesn't seem embarrassed in the least.

He figures he has more dignity than drunk people singing karaoke, so.

Tiwa finds him wonderful fun to sing with and starts to get the rest of the Bar into singing with them, they're very persuasive.

They are extremely persuasive.

Hence the enthusiasm they're managing to drum up.

The dancing and hand gestures help and Tiwa seems to glow a little bit under the lights as they round through the last chorus.

And he grows happier simply being in her presence.

As does the rest of the audience, she doesn't have the gift of the satyrs to change the mood of a crowd but her smiles are simply contagious.

When the song's over, she bows and gets Antoine to bow too before heading back to their table and beaming at him.

His bow is somewhat awkwardly executed, but he follows her back to their table as obediently as a puppy.

"That was ... fun."

"Good, we can do another one later if you want."

"Your wish is my command."

[piwakawaka]

"Only if you want to since want you to have fun."

"I think I shall pass up on a second round, so long as I can get a promise to come back here."

"Of course you can. Do you want to do anything else?"

Tiwa is not really known for planning ahead.

"I've enough to write a book on already. Thank you."

And he kisses her quickly (chastely) on the cheek.

"Just be nice."

She giggles and watches a rather drunken couple serenade each other.

"When have I ever not been?" he asks, in a mock injured voice, before piping down and watching the drunk couple.

She sighs and giggles before getting back to her food and watching the parade of steadily funnier people, not always on purpose though.
